Cofounder of the design firm hipposchemes, helga currently has soft sculptures at the South Seattle Community College Gallery and Gallery 1412. This year she collaborated with Maureen Whiting for the Seattle Dance Project and is creating costumes and set elements for Maureen Whiting Company's "Myth of Me and You" for Lucia Neare’s "Lullaby Moon" in the spring. She has also worked with Seattle choreographers Ricki Mason (Launch Dance Theater) and Kristen Tsiatsios (Glassbones), and has participated in the Smoke Farm Summer Art Festival in both 2008 and 2007. Her work also includes private commissions, such as a wedding gown made in the summer of 2007 and costumes for Queer Electro Sex Hop pioneers Scream Club.
helga’s commitment to sustainable design embraces the use of recycled and scavenged materials, which contribute a sense of uncomfortable familiarity to her work. With a keen eye for the unexpected, helga tugs at the seams of convention, bringing forth the creative potential of mundane reality.
